Home Projects Growing with Julie Leicestershire Heritage Apples Master Gardeners Forum Contact

Leicestershire Heritage Apples Project (LHAP) was formed in 2005 to promote the varieties of apple which originated in Leicestershire and which have largely been abandoned in favour of a few well-known varieties sold by the major supermarkets.

We have rediscovered several Leicestershire apple varieties and are now making them available throughout the county.

During our searches we have uncovered some very worthwhile unique seedlings (the Leicestershire Unique Seedlings) and some of these are being made available to the public.

We run grafting courses and workshops and give advice on setting up orchards and the care of fruit trees. We have an interest in very late-ripening apples which can be picked in December or January; we also grow a number of red-fleshed varieties.

Apple Tasting

One of the many joys of growing apples and creating new varieties is tasting the ripe apples.
